REFLECTION 8: Decision Making Process
As I have already alluded to, this was not an easy process….
I have always lived in the suburbs, so it was weird to think that I would want to live downtown. Was I nuts? And, I did have a beautiful home (which was expensive and big). Why would I want to get rid of it?
For me it boiled down to money. The house was expensive, and that’s all I did was work on it. I had no one to enjoy it with, and it had a lot of bad memories. The last time I took a vacation was when I was married. I have been divorced for 7 years. Now that says something since I used to travel quite a bit prior to getting married.
I saw no end in sight in the expenses of maintaining it – it still had the original furnace and air conditioner. When will those break? What else was there too?
At the end of the day, by downsizing, I could save about $1,000 a month. That’s a lot of money to go on vacations, buy a camera to take pictures again, go to cooking classes, and to NOT work on a house.
