Final Reveal

After reflecting about 2017, this was a fun project that I accomplished. Take a look!

DECORGANIZE

The team spent quite a bit of time shopping, and we looked for the inspiration piece to base the design off of from what the bachelor had provided to us.  Jackpot!  We found the below canvas to be our inspiration:

Our goal is to spread the red pop of color around the room because of the red in the canvas.  The other goal we had was to add some whimsy to the room.  A tall order especially since this was a bachelor in his mid-forties.

It was time.  We kicked the bachelor out of his apartment, and got to work!

Inspiration finally from the bachelor

After many conversations with the bachelor, he dug in, and sent me some pictures of images that caught his attention.  These images helped me tremendously, although, notice the lack of color in the first three images, even though he kept telling me he wanted color.

The mirror above the fireplace he thought was ‘cool’.

The squiggly sticks also caught his eye.

Walking men, he told me made him laugh. But this also told me, he like whimsy.

The next two images truly gave me direction on what do in his place.

This skyline metal piece of art had the reds, oranges, yellows and blacks that I think he wanted in his place.

Wow, this fall picture with the birch trees really captured who I think reflects him the best.

With these inspiration pieces, he provided to me, I went shopping again with a better plan.  I needed to find the statement piece for above the couch to drive the remaining colors and accessories.  Finally, I think I made progress and may be successful to make the bachelor happy 🙂

First Try

After shopping for the bigger ticket items, it was time to accessorize.  So, I went shopping, and realized I didn’t know what I was looking for.  You see, the bachelor really didn’t know what he liked.  I kept gravitating to items I liked versus what he may like.  The following is my first try at accessorizing his place.

The rug lightens up the place, and here you can see the lamp, the mirrored art above the couch, and the glass vases next to the couch.

The chair in the nook.

A close up of the mirrored art I proposed to hang above the couch.

Something was not quite right, so we flip flopped the chaise on the couch.

The chair in the nook again next to the chaise.

It turned out ok, but it just wasn’t the wow factor I was looking for, and what the bachelor was looking for.  So, back to the drawing board to see if I could make the space more him and alive.

Shopping for the Bachelor Pad

Many stores later….we found many options as we shopped for furniture and accessories.  Because this was a smaller space, we wanted to make sure we did not buy “too big” of furniture.

Prior to going shopping we measured very carefully the spaces.  Here are some of the measurements:

Peninsula Length in the Kitchen:  119″

Peninsula Height:  35″

Niche width:  46.5″

TV Wall: 8′

Couch Wall:  16′ 8″

Window Wall:  12′

We were on a mission to find a couch, chair or chairs, a bed frame, coffee table , lamps, dining table, and accessories.

Bar stool options which had to be countertop bar stools at approximately 24″ high to allow for enough space for a person to sit at the peninsula comfortably.

The bachelor went for the sturdy bar stool pictured on the left that can slide under the peninsula overhang to keep the eye site open as you walk into the living space.

Bachelor Pad Project

I just started on a really fun project.  This request for help came from a man who recently got rid of everything he owned and is single.  He moved into a luxurious apartment building and wants to make his apartment sleek, swanky and ‘cool’, not the typical bachelor pad with a large TV, no color with very little style.

The apartment itself did not have very much color, and is very gray with dark expresso colored cabinets.  The bachelor needed everything, from a shower curtain, furniture, and accessories.  One thing he repeatedly told me is that he wanted color in his place.  This will be fun and possible challenging!

He sent me the following pictures:
